Got new garbage disposal but you do not know how to change a garbage disposal? Changing garbage disposal might be tricky and difficult for those who do not know the trick and the garbage disposal itself. In fact, to change a garbage disposal is easy and practical to do it by yourself. However, it indeed needs time and carefulness to do it.
As you got your new garbage disposal unit, read the manual and check all the part is available. All the part is important in order to have a proper garbage disposal that can be used in ages. Then grab your gears and tools. You need Screwdriver especially the one with flat-head, hammer, putty knife, safety glasses and plumber’s putty. Then you ready to go.
- Turn off the circuit
When you want to install the garbage disposal, you need to turn off the power from the circuit breaker to your kitchen. Then set a bucket and disconnect the drainpipes. Later you need to remove the sink strainer and also remove those excess putty. If you still have the old one, you need to remove it carefully by loosening up everything.
- Apply the plumber’s putty.
Already have your plumber’s putty available on your side? Then take it and apply it around the flange. Press it until it suits to its place. Make sure the plumber stay at its place and lay a towel in the sink while setting the disposal on the flange.
- Install the snap ring.
Move to the underneath of the sink, you need to a backup flange and stack the fiber gasket. Carefully mounting the ring and slide it onto the inside of the flange. Then put the snap ring by pulling it open and snapping into its part. Don’t forget to tighten everything.
- Connect the garbage disposal to the dishwasher drain
After the ring is already installed properly, all you need to do is grab your hammer to remove the drain plug from an inlet on the disposal and connect it to the dishwasher drain.
- Connect the disposal with electricity.
By the garbage disposal, remove the cover and pull out the wire. Matching the wire by its color and push the wires back. Then reattach the plate. This will allow your electricity to reach the garbage disposal to work.
- Connect everything and test the disposal
After all the above steps are done, attached all the drain and insert the gasket together. Connect the dishwasher and make sure the pipe is connected properly. Then test the disposal to check whether it has leaks or not.
As you already done all the steps above, your disposal garbage can be used right properly. Again check everything to make sure that your steps are all good. The disposal garbage flange is maybe a little bit noisy at first. The noise appears as the sign that the unit is work as it supposed to be. Do not panic.
